Dr. David Klein – M.D., CCFP

Psychotherapist

Dr. David Klein is a Family Physician and GP Psychotherapist licensed with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, and a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Family & Community Medicine at the University of Toronto. He is a member of the College of Family Physicians of Canada, the Ontario Medical Association, and the Medical Psychotherapy Association of Canada.

Dr. Klein’s approach combines practical skills with insight-oriented therapy, helping patients better understand their thoughts, emotions, and behaviour patterns. He works with substance use challenges alongside anxiety, depression, trauma-related concerns, and other co-occurring mental health conditions. His care draws on evidence-based modalities including ACT, DBT, CBT, IFS, and trauma-focused therapies, guided by thorough biopsychosocial assessment to ensure each treatment plan reflects the individual in front of him.

Treatment focuses on understanding relapse risk, building emotional regulation skills, exploring relationship patterns shaped by earlier experiences, supporting identity development during recovery, and preparing patients for a stable transition back to community living.

Dr. Klein has completed postgraduate psychotherapy training through the Medical Psychotherapy Association of Canada (MDPAC), the National Institute for the Clinical Application of Behavioral Medicine (NICABM), and Massachusetts General Hospital’s Psychiatry Academy. He holds advanced training in trauma care for professionals working in high-stress and operational environments, through the Atlas Institute for Veterans and Families and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs WRIISC, along with advanced certification in National Security and Intelligence from the University of Ottawa.
